Services & Fees
At Let Your Light Shine Counseling, I offer individual counseling for adults and teenagers 13 years and over. I understand that taking this first step can be difficult, but my goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for you to explore your mental health and work towards a happier and more fulfilling life. I offer both in-person and teletherapy sessions to cater to your specific needs.
Out-of-Network Options
I don't accept insurance, but I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. On average, Mentaya can get you a 62% reimbursement for our sessions. If you are interested, you can sign up here or call me and I can answer any questions.

Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist, I do not benefit in any way from your participation.
An alternative to Mentaya is to submit the Superbill that I'll furnish to your insurance company in order to receive reimbursement. Before making an appointment, I suggest calling the number on the back of your insurance card, inquiring about your out-of-network therapy benefits, and learning how to submit an out-of-network reimbursement claim.
Why 'Self-pay'?
In a world of insurance, opting for self-pay might seem scary. You may think that your financial constraints make self-pay impossible. While that may hold true for some, it actually may have some benefits for others.

Privacy
When an insurance claim is made, your therapist must provide a diagnosis for that particular session. This diagnosis may be included in your medical records, which can be viewed by other healthcare providers and you may prefer to keep your diagnostic information private. Not going through insurance and opting for a self-pay option ensures that no diagnosis is submitted to insurance or is accessible by other medical providers without a signed release.

More Freedom
Insurance companies exert significant control over various aspects of treatment, including the session's location, duration, and whether they will pay can be contingent on your diagnosis. For example, if you opt for a phone session in response to an unforeseen circumstance, it is usually not eligible for insurance coverage. The choice of video teletherapy or in-person sessions is also subject to insurance regulations. Additionally, insurance may impose limitations on the frequency and duration of appointments. By opting for Self-Pay, I, as your therapist, can provide you with the treatment I believe is most suitable for you without concerns about claim denial.
